The Tupilak- book review by Cara

Title: The Tupilak
Author: Kathryn White
Genre: A Mystery story told in flashback and recent past.
Plot Summery: Queena, an Inupiaq girl whom lives in Alaska, finds an Ivory carved object and her Grandmother thinks it is an evil object called a Tupilak. Many bad events start to happen to Queena and her Family. Queena’s Grandmother blames the so- called Tupilak and the rest of the family start a debate saying that all the events were just coincidences. Queena feels unhappy about the arguing and one day sets off to return the Tupilak, and hopefully the bad omens with it.
Favourite Character: Personally my favourite character is Queena’s Grandmother. She cares about the old days much more than the modern days. In Queena’s family she represents the old way of life, as she thinks life today in Alaska should be a replica of.
Most exciting events: The fire, one of the bad events that happened to Queena and her Family, as her feelings as described wonderfully, and you can picture the terrifying fire due to the fantastic description, and you can understand what the characters are going through.
I would recommend this book to: Friends and family for its great detail. Some of the bits could be improved slightly, in my opinion, but overall a fantastic story.

Winter By Kate

Winter

Winter is when everyone has fun in the snow, when children make snowmen and snow angels.
When there are snowball fights going on everywhere and it leaves children cheering or crying.
When sports have stopped and every one is bored or stuck inside.
When children go out in the snow and go home to sit by the fire.
When school is boring and you fall asleep when you get home in bed.
When parents can’t go to work and are stuck inside watching TV.
But altogether it’s FUN!

Winter by Pavnjit

Winter

In my hand the snow is cold,
Which is very hard to hold.
And the frozen piece of ice,
Which to skate on is very nice.
Leafless trees, winter breeze,
Snowflakes, icy lakes,
Hats, scarfs and woolly gloves,
Thats the winter that I do love.

The Wonderful Winter

Winter

In the winter the snow starts to fall.
Ice hangs from branches like pointy fingers.
Nights are long and cold.
Branches are bare and covered with ice.
Everyone loves to play in the snow.
Roads are layered in sparkling frost.

Events in Winter by Cara

The frozen leaves,
Come of the trees,
In winter.
There are no flowers,
We are lost in its powers,
In winter.
Our fingers freeze,
As we fumble for our keys,
In winter.
It always rains,
And that is such a pain,
In winter.
As our rosy cheeks glow,
It starts to snow,
In winter.
Though all these things happen,
In winter,
We should be glad there’s no merrier,
Time of year.

Outside my Window by Laura

Snow is falling,
Past my window.
Rain is bashing,
Against my roof.
Wind is blowing,
Brings a tear to my eye.
Snowman is out there,
He is drooping.
His arms are melting,
It’s the end for him.
